Another ride we have been on several times, DINOSAUR is a great choice in the Animal Kingdom. We went on this ride early in our adventures due to the short waits and the ease of scoring a Fastpass+. In fact, the first time we went to the park, we rode DINOSAUR twice before leaving.
This ride is one of my favorites and after going on it a few times, it has become one of my wife’s favorites, too. We enjoy dinosaur theming, so it comes as no surprise that we enjoy this ride.
Reviewing the Queue & the Wait
The queue is pretty neat, but not one of the best in Walt Disney World. However, you will get to see a large dinosaur and plenty of other exhibits along the way. Usually, we miss most of this because we have a Fastpass+ or the line is short.
The wait is usually pretty short unless the ride was shut down temporarily. I have seen the wait climb to 45 minutes a few times and to over an hour only when it was temporarily closed for part of the day. Usually, it’s about a 15 to 30-minute wait and if you go later at night, it will likely be shorter.
DINOSAUR simulates a journey into the past with a four-wheel drive vehicle. It’s higher on the intensity scale and I will give it a 7 out of 10 for intensity. Disney calls the thrill level “Thrill Ride, Small Drops, Dark, Scary”. I agree, but it’s really not super scary. It’s a bit of a thrill ride because you do get jerked around quite a bit and it is dark, but this is not a roller coaster by any means.
The age range goes from kids to adults and you do have to be at least 40 inches tall to ride DINOSAUR.
DINOSAUR Review: The Ride
The video at the beginning will explain the journey of the ride. The goal is to go back in time and bring back a specific dinosaur known as an Iguanodon. The ride starts off pretty gentle and you get to see some cool dinosaurs, but it doesn’t take long before you’re kicking in the four-wheel drive and heading through the intense parts.
Expect sharp turns, fast movement, dinosaurs coming out of everywhere and plenty of fun. A meteor shower will be happening right before you head back to the future with the Iguanodon. Don’t miss the security cameras at the end showing the dinosaur being chased by security!
DINOSAUR: Fastpass+ Worthy?
Yes, this ride is Fastpass+ worthy, but only if the wait is longer. We have never had trouble getting a Fastpass+ for DINOSAUR last minute, so you don’t need to book this as one of your first three.
You can check the waits while you’re in the park and if it’s under 30 minutes, don’t waste a Fastpass+ on it. However, if you’ve used up your 3 for the day, you can book one at a time and this is a good choice, as it’s usually available.
My Final Opinion of DINOSAUR
DINOSAUR is thrilling, fun, unique and a great choice for anybody that loves dinosaurs. Numerous times I have heard children come out of the ride wanting to do it again and we have ridden with plenty that were on their second or third go around.
My rating for DINOSAUR is an 8 out of 10 and it’s a MUST DO at the Animal Kingdom for me. Whether you can get a Fastpass+ last minute or not, this is a ride you want to do before leaving the park!
