You may have to sign up to receive an email with A Fine Parent since they are not always open for submissions. However, when they do open up for submissions, you can write for them and get paid. The site publishes one in-depth article as a blog post every week. The post should be 1,500 to 3,000 words long and this site likes to have an action plan as a part of the article.

Pay Range: $75 per article


It’s not exactly a parenting site, but FreelanceMom does accept articles about things having to do with parents becoming freelancers or solopreneurs. If you fit into this category and you want to write about it, FreelanceMom is a great place to submit your work.

Articles should be between 900 and 1,500 words in length with an action plan at the end. FreelanceMom likes well-researched articles, very personal articles, and educational articles or guides.

Pay Range: $75 to $100 per article + a $150 monthly bonus for the most shared article of the month


A magazine and website, Parents publishes all types of stories on parenting and being parents. They don’t typically publish personal essays, but they will, in some cases. They also don’t publish any fiction or poetry.

This national publication looks for content for both the magazine and the website with a need for compelling human-interest stories.

Working Mother

A publication with stories about full-time, part-time, and sidelined mothers working at both private and public companies of all types and sizes, Working Mother loves to accept freelance work from writers. They publish feature articles in the magazine of 1,000 to 2,000 words and may publish some columns from freelance writers, as well.

The online portion of Working Mother also accepts freelance work with the word range at 500 to 1,000 words. They look for topics related to working moms, lifestyle, and family with a tips style, listicle style, or essay format.

Write For Just Parents

Seeking relevant, unique content from freelance writers, you can get paid to write about parenting with JustParents. They cover parenting topics, along with pregnancy topics with light-hearted opinion pieces, and other types of articles. Most articles for JustParents should be 700 to 1,500 words in length without any mention of politics or religion.

Pay Range: Varies


Stories ranging from 700 to 900 words are accepted by MotherlyStories. This website looks for your own experience in motherhood and loves to publish these types of stories. They also accept other types of stories, too.

MotherlyStories also loves to work with experts, such as teachers, nutritionists, interior designers, pediatricians, stylists, child development experts, and other experts. They look for research-backed articles from these types of experts that will help their community of mothers.

Stork Guide

A hub for moms, specifically new moms, Stork Guide looks to publish content to help all mothers with the raising of their children from newborn to toddler. They also publish articles about pregnancy for expectant mothers.

Stork Guide accepts work from all types of freelance writers, not just from mothers. Feature posts should be at least 700 words, while shorter posts should be at least 300 words.

Pay Range: $50+ for feature posts, byline with a link for shorter posts

Metro Parent for Southeast Michigan

If you live in the southeast Michigan area and you want to get paid to write about parenting, this may be the perfect option for you. Metro Parent is looking for freelance writers for both the magazine and the website. They cover the counties of Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne.

Feature articles will range from 1,200 to 2,500 words, while shorter articles may be accepted between 150 to 400 words. They also have a Kids 101 section, which requires articles around 600 words and a few other sections requiring articles in the 600 to 800-word range.

Online posts will range from 600 to 800 words and they also accept resource roundups. Metro Parent also has three annual guides that require content once a year.

Pay Range: $200+ for magazine articles, $35+ for online posts, and $50 to $125+ for annual articles

The Marriage Counseling Blog

If you want to write about marriage, The Marriage Counseling Blog may be the perfect choice for you. They have been adding new content since 2008 and seek writers to help with the content. Not only will you get paid, but you can also build up name recognition with this site.

Cincinnati Parent Magazine

Talented freelance writers can help make the Cincinnati Parent Magazine great. They accept all types of articles about parenting with an editorial calendar for freelance contributors.

A website dedicated to parents, Zift offers freelance writers the opportunity to write for the Parent Portal and Parenting Insights Blog. All topics will relate to parenting and must be original with actionable tips or advice. Articles should be at least 800 words and the best articles will range from 1,500 to 2,000 words.

Youth Today

A national trade newspaper accepting work from freelance writers, Youth Today is published bi-monthly in the Atlanta area. Content must be for the audience of adults working with kids and stories should have a level of depth to them. Most articles will range from 600 to 2,500 words.

A website all about family and parenting, Scary Mommy has categories for pregnancy, kids, lifestyle, parenting, and more. Articles for this site need to be 900 or more words. While general submissions are not compensated, you may be able to gain a more permanent writing position through a good general submission.

A website all about the lies out there about parenting, Lies about Parenting look for writers willing to use Grammarly Pro as their editing software. They don’t offer submissions all the time and at the time of writing, they were closed. However, you can subscribe to be informed when they reopen.

Adoptive Families

A website all about how to adopt and parenting children you have adopted, Adoptive Families offers plenty of opportunities for writers to get paid. They cover all kinds of topics, such as open adoption, older child adoption, infertility, adoptive parents of color, and much more.

PTO Today

PTO Today is a magazine and a website looking for freelance writers to help provide content. They prefer how-to pieces, profiles of people and programs, first-person articles, and articles by experts. They cover topics, such as fundraising, parent involvement, leadership, working with school staff, and more.

Articles should range from 600 to 1,600 words with the average at about 1,200 words.

The Christian Science Monitor

Write For Christian Science Monitor

While it’s not a site about parenting or family, The Christian Science Monitor does have a family category. Writers can cover a variety of topics for this website including personal essays from 400 to 800 words. They also accept poems and many other types of content.

Cricket Media

Offering several magazines and places for you to write about, Cricket Media allows you to write about many things having to do with family and parenting. Content ranges quite a bit with lengths up to 9,000 words for novellas and some nonfiction up to 5,000 words.

Pay Range: 25 cents per word for stories and articles, $3 per line for poems with a $25 minimum

Brain, Child

At the time of writing, Brain, Child isn’t accepting submissions, but that will likely change at some point. When they are accepting submissions, expect to write long-form essays of 1,500 to 4,500 words. They publish both print and online pieces.

Chicago Parent

Offering the opportunity for parents to write parent essays, Chicago Parent looks for first-person essays of 400 to 500 words. They also accept feature articles, which are longer and tackle larger topics related to education and childcare.

Pay Range: $25 to $50 for short articles, $50 to $100 for reader essays, and $100+ for feature articles

Yummy Mummy Club or YMC

YMC offers the opportunity for writers to get published and get paid for writing about parenting and family. It’s all about motherhood and they look for good unfiltered articles.

Her View From Home

Her View From Home offers several categories including motherhood, marriage, faith, and more. They accept all kinds of articles from freelancers with many ranging from 600 to 800 words. In addition, they will be starting His View From Home (Fall 2019), which will also accept freelance writers.

Pay Range: Payment is based on views and ranges from $5 to $100 per original article and from $0 to $50 for previously published content


Write For Kveller

A website looking for submissions all the time, Kveller offers plenty of categories for those looking to write about family. They offer a Jewish culture category, along with pregnancy, baby names, and motherhood categories. Articles should range from 500 to 1,000 words and need to be original.

Clubhouse Magazine

A unique magazine also known as Focus on the Family Clubhouse, this 32-page publication offers freelance writers an opportunity to write about family from a Christian perspective. Their audience range from 8 to 12 years of age. They accept fiction and nonfiction ranging from 500 words to 2,000 words.

Western New York Family Magazine

A magazine offering freelance writers huge opportunities, Western New York Family Magazine is 90% freelance-written. Articles need to focus on parenting issues for the Western New York community, if possible.  Word count may range from 500 to more than 2,500 words.

My Expert Advice for Anybody Looking to Write about Family & Parenting & Get Paid

If you want to write about family and parenting topics to make a living, you need to find your voice. This is a niche where you have to stand out a bit, as many writers want to enter into the family and parenting space.

The good news, if you can stand out, you will likely have more work than you can handle.

The bad news, it may take several submissions to find that one place willing to publish you. However, once you get published, it becomes much easier to find work in the family and parenting space.
