Write For LWN.net

Not the highest paying choice on the list, but a good place to get started, LWN.net seeks writers providing high-quality articles and willing to meet tight deadlines. If you want to write about news in the free software community, this is the site for you.

Pay Range: $200 for lead-in articles and $250 for Kernel age articles

Linode

Writing Linode Tutorials can be a great way to make a living as a freelance writer. Linode.com seeks talented individuals to write tutorials about Linode, along with Linux, and cloud infrastructure. If this is right up your alley, you’ll be able to make money writing for Linode.com.

Pay Range: Up to $300 per guide

A List Apart

Looking for new authors regularly, A List Apart offers the opportunity for those looking to write about Code, Design, Content, Industry, Business, User Experience, and Process. They cover many things in the technology space and they want writers with a bold, interesting voice.

A more specialized place for writers with deeper technical knowledge, Indeni looks for those with network and security device certifications and plenty of experiences in this area. They prefer articles with 800+ words.

A great place for IT professionals to write about technology and get paid, Techopedia has plenty of opportunities. They generally prefer articles between 600 and 1,200 words in length and you will need to pitch them before writing the article.

Pay Range: Varies

SQLServerCentral

Write For SQL Server Central

Articles, questions, and scrips are accepted at SQLServerCentral. They allow authors to provide a question of the day, blog posts, or scripts. However, they do not pay for any of this content.

To get paid by SQLServerCentral, you must first submit works in the categories above and become an established author. They will commission you to help out with the Stairway Series, which is a comprehensive set of articles on very narrow topics. They pay for these articles and may commission you for others, as well.

TutorialsPoint

Write tutorials for TutorialsPoint on a number of tech topics including web development, Java, IT, telecommunications, and many more. These self-learning materials will be paid for by the company and you can do pretty well-writing tutorials for sites like this one.

The sister site of Hypercia, Hypergrid Business is always looking for new writers. This site covers virtual reality and emerging technology, which can be rather fascinating for the right freelance writer.

The site 5 Best Things has already shown up on other lists I have done because they have several categories. For technology, they have a Tech category, a Mobile Apps category, and a Software category. While they offer opportunities for freelance writers, they are not a very high paying option. However, you can still get paid and get some published samples to use to attract new clients.

Ilovefreesoftware

Write For ILoveFreeSoftware

A site willing to pay you for reviewing the latest software, Ilovefreesoftware offers plenty of opportunities. They do pay for articles and state you can make some good money from your writing.

Digital Ocean

The site called Digital Ocean uses a program called Donations as their writing option. You can write for this program and help tech-focused charities while getting paid. They match every payout to an author with a donation to a tech-focused charity.

Typically, they are looking for tutorial type of content in the technology niche. They not only pay you to write tutorials, but they will also pay you to update existing tutorials.

SeoTips

Another site from Digital Ocean you can write for, SeoTipsandSolutions.com accepts articles fitting their specific guidelines. These are not the same as the tutorials mentioned for their DOnations program. They want articles on the latest technology for software and server administration. You can even advance to an Elite writer with Digital Ocean through this site.

Another site with multiple categories, Vice offers a Tech category, along with many others. You can pitch your technology writing directly to the head of the tech category. They also offer job openings for regular writing work occasionally.
