There is quite a bit of debate around the question, “how often should I blog for SEO?” It’s a bit of a loaded question and many factors determine the answer including:
- Your goals
- Your industry
- Your budget/time for blogging
- Your current website
If you want the most traffic possible from blogging, you want to blog every day, in most industries. However, this may not be possible or it may not be the way you want to approach blogging.
When using blogging for SEO, you have to look at it like a net. The more blog posts you have, the larger the net you’re fishing with, and the more visitors you can attract. Of course, I am assuming you’re creating high-quality blog posts written for your readers.
How Often Should I Blog for SEO? According to Top Sources
HubSpot has a ton of information on how often you should blog if you want better SEO. Let’s look at two glaring stats from HubSpot about blogging for SEO.
- “In 2019, HubSpot found that marketers who prioritize marketing efforts are 13x more likely to see positive ROI.” (Source)
- HubSpot also found companies with 401+ blog posts saw nearly double the traffic compared to those with 301 to 400 blog posts. (Source)
Along with these two stats from HubSpot, Marketing Insider Group found that 11+ blog posts per month was the magic number for a “noticeable increase in traffic for both B2B and B2C businesses.”
It’s pretty obvious, the more you blog, the more traffic you will get, and the more leads you will generate, but how does it all impact your SEO?
How does Blogging Impact Website SEO?
Blogging provides several opportunities to boost your overall website SEO including:
- Inbound linking potential
- External linking potential
- Ability to target long-tail keywords
- Fresh content for indexing
- Keep people on your website longer (lower bounce rate)
- And More!
When it comes to SEO, the more frequently you blog, the larger your net will become as you get listed for more keywords and gain more traffic. As people start to find your blog, you will keep them on your site longer, which helps lower your bounce rate.
Many of the important SEO factors are positively impacted by frequent blogging, no matter the size of your business.
How Often Should I Blog for SEO in 2020?
There was a time, back before 2014, when blogging multiple times a day was a good idea. Today, it’s not necessary. While you can certainly do it, you don’t need to publish multiple blog posts per day for better SEO.
In 2020, you should blog at least 10 times per month, which is about once every 3 days. If you want the best possible results, it’s better to aim for publishing a blog post every other day or about 16 times per month.
Those in a highly competitive industry should aim for 20+ blog posts per month. If you don’t have 401 or more blog posts already published, aim for publishing a blog post about every single day until you reach this mark.
Once you have 401+ blog posts published, you can slow down to 3 or 4 times per week.
Since the goal of SEO is to drive targeted traffic to your website, blogging plays a huge factor. You want to cast the widest possible net; even if you’re target audience is local.
Blogging provides a great way to quickly boost SEO and gain more traffic. If you post high-quality content daily, by the end of one year, you’ll have 365 blog posts. Add another five weeks and you’ll be at the coveted 400 blog post benchmark.
